When you are designing your new home, it is important to consider the light that the design creates within the home.

The many benefits of having a home filled with natural light has been promoted for many years by designers and lifestyle commentators alike, as it increases the feeling of space in your home and it’s also linked to positive wellbeing.

If you are someone that wants to maximise natural light, here are our top design considerations to add light to your home.

Raked ceilings

Raking ceilings are a wonderful and stylish way to create a contemporary home that feels light and bright. Primarily used with more modern facades with an architectural feel, the heightened ceilings undoubtedly make a room and home feel bigger.

Larger or architectural windows normally go with raked ceilings, which allow for additional airflow and natural light that will be loved.

We have a number of display homes with raked ceiling, such as the Massena 30 Two at Sovereign Hills or the Hermitage Grande Manor at Homeworld Box Hill.

Gorgeous Glass Treatments

Louvres

We are thrilled to now offer louvres within our designs, as seen in the Lakeside on display at Watagan Park. Louvres allow for controlled natural airflow and light throughout Living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms whilst still offering privacy with a range of glazing options available.

Skylights

Skylights bring natural light into areas such as kitchens, hallways and bathrooms, which has the bonus effect of preventing the build-up of mould as some open for additional ventilation, allowing more airflow throughout.

We adore our new Miami Executive at Homeworld Leppington with skylights throughout; this one is definitely worth a visit to see what's possible with skylights.

Stacker Doors

McDonald Jones designs are loved for the architectural connection throughout the home and seamless transition from indoors to outdoors, connecting to your natural environment.
A wonderful way to increase the natural light in your home is to install large bi-folding doors, which are a stylish choice to transform an entire wall of your home into glass for breathtaking views and to create an easy flow, perfect for entertaining.

We invite you to explore the Havana at Homeworld Thornton or Panorama 33 at Homeworld Leppington.

Light & Airy Colour Palette

Select lighter colours for your walls to add spaciousness throughout all rooms of your home, no matter what the size and window design.

Whites, like Tahira White and Illusive White from the Taubman’s range, make a space feel brighter as they reflect the natural light, rather than absorb it. Our team also love light greys, and light woods teamed with whites to create an alternative focal point.

Another interior design trick our team love is choosing a paint with a satin finish to reflect more light and painting the ceiling a couple of shades lighter than the walls to create the illusion of more height and space.

Explore our San Marino Encore at Homeworld Thornton or Bayswater One at Hereford Hill to experience two uniquely different light palettes.

We invite you to visit our newest Display Homes to experience these design features for yourself and discover all the options to let more light into your home
