Choose a Style of Home that Suits Your Personality

Our homes are an extension of ourselves. The homes we live in accommodate and amplify our particular habits, rituals, and strengths. On the other hand, living in the wrong home can suppress some of the natural enthusiasms and rhythms we feel for everyday life.

We’ve put together a quick guide on some of our favourite substyles, which fall under our six styles available in our MyChoice Design Studio.

Scandi

Perfect for those craving the simple life, the Scandi style is all about combining beauty, simplicity, and functionality using natural fibres and timbers. As the love affair for this design continues to grow, we’ve seen it adopted even more closely with Scandinavian concepts such as the Danish ‘Hygge’ (cosiness and wellbeing) movement.

Paired back cosiness, texture, and earthy materials make this style welcoming and embracing. Light timber is paired with soft white or grey walls throughout the home to allow the space to breathe. Small amounts of colour is introduced through soft furnishings.

Our Scandi McDonald Jones Homes use organic, light timbers and neutral white or grey backgrounds. These are matched with soft colours and accessories to give them that authentic Scandinavian vibe.

A Scandi dweller will be someone who doesn’t collect all too much and prefers things to be kept uncluttered and tidy. Scandi is a substyle of Contempo.

The Contempo style exudes comfort and welcome. It's a modern look that is constantly evolving without becoming cluttered or dark.

Country

Unlike the Scandi style, the Country style is suited to someone who is a bit more of a wonderer – and wants a home that reflects the more gentle rhythms of Australian country life.

With carefully selected natural fibres in our fabrics of cottons, wools, and linens, expect a more seamless transition from the indoor to the outdoor environments. Natural timber floors and textured carpets give an easy-going look to an interior style that is comfortable, practical, and easy to maintain.

Country style shares similar characteristics to that of a cottage style through its use of muted landscape colours and vintage accessories throughout the home. Local markets and antique shops offer inspiration for furniture and decor pieces within this style.

Fabrics on curtains and bedding often feature floral patterns, gingham, or stripes, to bring personality to the otherwise very neutral and simple base palette. Furnishings are most often warm timber to support the patterning. This style takes its core from a traditional classic look, but it is unstructured, relaxing, and heartwarming.

Country is a substyle of Classic. The Classic style includes a beautiful neutral palette that honours traditional architecture but always maintains a warm, welcoming, and homely environment.

Hamptons

Hamptons represents elegant but relaxed coastal living. The Hamptons style is light and fresh and begins with classic architectural design features including timber panelling, high coffered or pitched ceilings with exposed beams, and timber floors. Layered with beautiful, neutral, ocean inspired colours, and natural materials, this will always be one of the world’s most popular styles.

With sun-drenched interiors where light and movement flow easily, like the summer breeze, our Hamptons homes are perfect for either work or play.

Hamptons is also a substyle of Classic and is full of light and spacious living areas, perfect for entertaining family and friends.
