From helping to save the lives of kids with cancer to supporting critical research that could stop a disease that inevitably leads to blindness, McDonald Jones is stepping up our contribution to the families in need across our building footprint.
This year alone our Charitable Foundation has donated almost $950,000 towards worthy causes that will help make a difference in the lives of families across our communities. None of this would have been possible without the support of our partners and staff, and the customers that choose to build with us; a portion of the cost of every home that we build goes directly towards funding healthier communities.
Recently we awarded funding towards research that will be conducted within Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) into the prevention of blindness caused by myopia. Dr Sally McFadden and Dr Catherine Dunlop, who will lead the research, were grateful for the support for such a crucial project that could help save the eyesight of millions of people around the world.

Unfortunately, high myopia is now the leading cause of low vision and blindness around the world. It starts in very young people, but in later life can lead to myopic macular degeneration (complete blindness in central vision).
The project we are doing with (McDonald Jones') support is to test special eye drops which we hope might slow down the excessive growth that occurs. If it works, it may be enough to put the eye back into a less extreme range, and thus stop the otherwise inevitable progression to blindness.”
This donation is on top of the recent project we completed to raise funds for Sydney based charity, Children’s Cancer Institute’s mission, to put an end to childhood cancer.
The Build for a Cure project involved building, furnishing and landscaping one of our stunning designs in Western Sydney; the home was then auctioned and sold to a lucky family for $783,000. These funds will aid the discovery of a treatment for a disease that takes the lives of many kids in Australia every day.
