Net Zero Construction

It's been designed to produce enough renewable energy, offsetting the annual carbon emissions of its estimated energy use. The display home will be an educational experience for people to come and learn how to incorporate sustainable healthy design for new or existing homes. Preliminary works have commenced, and the home is expected to be complete in late 2025.

In the development of this project, we have used a range of products that all contribute to offsetting the annual carbon emissions of its energy use, such as:

Reece Bathrooms Water Efficient Products

In this home we have included Reece Mizu tapware which has a six star water efficiency rating, which is the highest possible rating you can get. Episode 8 - Energy

Fisher Paykel Smart Home HQ

Achieving net zero occurs when the total amount of energy used by the home each year balances out with the renewable energy that it creates for itself on site. We've spoken with Shane Quinn from Fisher and Paykel Home Solutions to tell us a little bit more about it. The Smart HQ ecosystem used in this home allows all the products to be connected together. This innovative app allows you to manage your connected appliances seamlessly from home, or away.

All parts of the system will be connectable which puts control of home energy in your hands. Connected systems allow you to prioritise power usage, control your appliances, and manage battery storage. Achieve a warmer, drier, cooler and more energy efficient home through a combination of solar with innovative heat pump hot water, air conditioning and heating and energy efficient appliances, all through one provider. We'll deliver an integrated home energy solution design to accomplish your Energy Efficient, Carbon Zero or Carbon Positive energy goals.

Episode 9 - Lights

Signify 3D Printed lights

We've featured many fantastic recycled products here at the Net Zero home, including benchtops, tiles, tapware and lights. We spoke with Simon from Signify to talk about our recycled 3D printed lights. Signify enables customers to custom-design or tailor their luminaires. We then 3D print and deliver a quality product that saves on energy, waste in manufacturing, packaging and transportation. 3D printing paves the way for more innovative designs with more complex shapes and colours.

Signify's luminaires have less parts and don’t use glue. Manufactured and assembled locally, a typical finished luminaire (excluding electronics and optics) has a 47% lower carbon footprint than a similar conventionally manufactured metal luminaire. It is 35% lighter, resulting in carbon savings when shipping. At the end of life, the luminaire’s polycarbonate material can be shredded and re-used.

Find out more about Signify's 3D printed products here.
