Taking the first few steps along the journey to bringing your dream home to life can be daunting. After all, you’ve worked and saved so hard to create the home that you have always wanted; one that reflects the way that you truly want to live.

When it comes to choosing the right home for you, you want it to be just that…the perfect fit! That is where our Building and Design Consultants come in.

“Every building journey is unique,” Building and Design Consultant at Huntlee, Angela Workman said.

“However, there are a few steps you need to take to ensure the end result of your efforts is the home that you have always dreamed of. Once you have set your budget, you can either start looking for land in your ideal location, a home design that you love, or look for a house and land package that suits your needs. There is simply no right or wrong way to embark on your journey.”

Perhaps your best source of advice and inspiration when it comes to starting your journey to building new is the Building and Design Consultants at your local display home.

“Most people don’t know where to start when it comes to building their new home, so that’s where we come in. When it comes to finding the right home for you, we encourage you to first ask yourself a few questions about what you are looking for,” Angela said.

These questions include:

  • What are your current living arrangements?
  • How do you see yourself using each space in your new home?
  • What are you most important features of your new home - what do you need?
  • How does the family cook and interact in the kitchen?
  • Does your family have any special hobbies?
  • Do you need a children’s activity room? If yes, do your children need to be monitored?
  • Do you require backyard access for a boat or van?

By answering these simple questions, our Building and Design Consultants can narrow down your new home options and provide expert advice on a home to suit the specific needs, tastes, lifestyle and desires of your family. Another way to gain inspiration on the right home for you is to browse through our new home designs on our website or to visit a number of your local display homes.

“You will know which home is perfect for you. You’ll feel a sense of warmth as soon as you come across the design that reflects who you are and how you love to live,” Angela said.

Once you have discovered the perfect home design for your family, the next step is to complement this with a block of land.

“Choosing the right block of land can be tricky and certain estates have strict guidelines you must adhere to. Developer guidelines or council requirements can be complicated and can add to your building costs, however we can help navigate these and assist in providing information to make sure you choose the right block,” Angela said.

“When it comes to looking for a block of land, I always tell people to come and see us. We quote on homes all around the neighbourhood you are looking to build in and we can be a great source of information, as we know the local building requirements. We are also well-informed about up-and-coming estates in areas you are looking at.”

According to Angela, one of the most common misconceptions that families have when it comes to starting their building journey is that they can’t lock in their dream home until the land is ready.

“Most people don’t know that they can actually start their building journey now. If you have secured your land but do not want to start building right away, we can provide you with an extended tender of up to 18 months to lock in current pricing, which could save you thousands of dollars,” Angela said.

The beauty of the extended tender is that it benefits people at all stages of preparing to build new, including those that need to sell their home, parents re-entering the workforce, couples wanting to save that little bit extra and families who have purchased un-registered land but have already found their dream home.

“We want you to feel confident and informed along your building journey, and the best way to make that happen is to have a chat to us sooner rather than later. That’s what we’re here for, to make your dreams a reality.”
