At McDonald Jones, we build every new home with the future in mind, from architecture to paint colours. Here are some of our picks for 2017 paint colours.

Sophistication Dominates the Palette

With a big design push towards modern looks and minimalist décor, paint trends have taken a turn for the sophisticated and elegant. Many people are designing with the future in mind, choosing colour palettes that are classic yet neutral so that changes to décor will be easier to accommodate.

For a more composed look, we might be seeing darker shades highlighted by brighter bursts. Jet Grey or Canyon Black work well as an accent wall, especially if the texture of the wall can soften the solemnity of the colour. Lily White or Stone White serves to provide the rest of the room with a nice contrast for a sophisticated finish.

Rich, Foreign-Inspired Colours

As globalisation becomes more and more integrated into our lives, we are starting to see the clash of cultures in our homes. Many palettes in Australian homes will be shaped by influences from Asia, Africa, Cuba and Middle Eastern countries. Red (Olga Sands, Hot Embers) and burnt orange (Orange Embers, Tiger Orange) bring strength, confidence, courage and passion to your home.

Yellow (Golden Circle, Indian Maize) signifies a happy harvest in many cultures. A rich yellow with a hint of earthiness will combine beautifully with bright, sky blues (Brilliant Blue, Gulf Coast) to give your home a positive, uplifting feeling.

Natural Tones and Colours

2017 will bring a strong push towards natural hues in the home. You can find fresh ways to use natural colours and textures that will provide a temporary disconnect from our digital world.

Beachgoers might lean towards some tried and true blues, like Taubmans' Padre Blue or Mermaid Kiss combined with a sea foam green like White Water or Ocean Breeze. Tans and browns to remind you of sand will offset the brightness of the blue with colours like Ginger Snap or Turtle Tan.

You can also expect to see some authentic, forest greens with earthy red browns. Perhaps Witch Green or Irish Stone paired with Cattai Clay or Toffee Apple.
