It’s getting close to that time of the year again. The scent of baked treats is wafting through the home, kids creative crafts are scattered throughout the living space, friends and family are booking in time to visit and see your new home.

Our Interior Designers are here to help you get your home Christmas ready in style and just in time.

1. Don’t break the bank, take inspiration from your natural surroundings.

When it comes to decorating your new home for Christmas or any other time of the year, there is no need to blow the budget on expensive décor. The world around you offers so much when it comes to bringing the interior of your home to life. Why not create a natural theme this year by featuring pine cones, nuts and fruits as decorations hung from your tree? You can even paint these in Christmas colours, such as golds or silvers, to add an elegant effect to match the Christmas theme. Succulents, twigs and foliage also have a beautiful, natural effect.

2. Choose a Christmas tree proportional to the space around it.

While it’s important to have a majestic and impactful Christmas tree that takes pride of place in your central living hub, you don’t want to overdo it and take away quality space where your family can come together before, on and after Christmas day.

3. While candles easily give off the sense of Christmas, opt for kid-safe electric candles.

Candles are a beautiful way to decorate your home for Christmas, however chances are you will have children running around on Christmas day, and so these are simply not practical. Electric candles are a great way to create the same aesthetic without the risk to the kids (and your favourite curtains). Display candles on your tables, sideboards and even near a front window to give your home a warm, welcoming glow. Some electric candles even come scented today, so you can still enjoy the amazing aroma.

4. Don’t be scared to have fun with your décor.

Be adventurous! Try new things when it comes to decorating your home for Christmas. For example find new ways to display your Christmas cards by transforming them into hanging Christmas decorations, a card garland or feature them in your centrepieces. Another great idea is to use natural paper or even pages from books to create Christmas origami. With plenty of how-tos available online, the whole family will enjoy this fun craft.

5. Dress up your dinner table with stunning centrepieces.

While the magic’s in the pudding (or the whole Christmas feast really) when it comes to the dining table, transform this area into the feature point of your home that will draw guests in through striking centrepieces. A beautiful table runner, glass vase filled with Christmas baubles, fresh flowers or foliage are a stunning way to dress your Christmas table. Candles displayed on a mirror is also a beautiful way to make your table sparkle, while clothing your table in brown or white paper is an inviting way to share Christmas messages.
