McDonald Jones’ clients Christine and David McAlister are typical of the growing number of people attracted to the versatility of the granny flat. In addition to building a large Bronte Executive Lodge on their 2300sqm site in Box Hill, NSW, they wanted a granny flat to help meet their family requirements. It needed to have two bedrooms and as it would overlook the pool area, it had to blend seamlessly with the landscaping of their new home. “Our daughter and her husband will be living in it while they save for their own home, so it had to be large and comfortable enough for them to make their home in,” says Christine.

“Once they move out, we’ll use it for guest accommodation and as a pool house. Over the years it will serve many purposes, so we wanted it to be quite spacious and have all the amenities you need for everyday living.”
