Building for a Cure!
The McDonald Jones team are returning again to rise to the challenge of raising much-needed funds to support the critical research and work of Children’s Cancer Institute. Following on from three previous very successful Build for a Cure projects, this year we find ourselves at home in the Hunter Region and joining forces with the McCloy Group to build this very special home at the The Bower, Medowie.
Kicking off on 27 August 2018, McDonald Jones will build one of our most popular and striking contemporary designs, the Cambridge.
This stunning four-bedroom home will be completed in this idyllic location in just 21 days and will come fully furnished thanks to Freedom and fitted out with premium appliances from Fisher & Paykel.
The Build for a Cure home will be the ultimate package – a beautiful home inside and out, situated in a magnificent location, inspired with professional interior design and beautiful landscaping – plus it’s built from the heart of everyone involved for a great cause!
It’s an extraordinary challenge, but it’s nothing compared to what children and families have to go through when faced with an insidious disease. With building for a cure, we’re helping to cure childhood cancer, it not if, it’s when!
We invite you to become a part of this important journey and wonderful initiative, and share in the excitement, from watching the home be constructed, to walking through the house when complete, to donating or even attending the auction, we can all lend support and make a difference to get closer to a cure.
Introducing this year’s design - the Cambridge. This home is intuitively balanced and embraces a more leisurely lifestyle and pace of living, delivering lasting value and a home that will transform the way you live.
This special home built with love will let your dreams unfold and deliver a lifestyle to remember. Upon entry, the front half of the Cambridge features an open plan layout carefully crafted for entertaining and catching up with family and friends. This multi-purpose space comprises a flowing Living and Dining area which is enhanced by a stunning Gourmet Kitchen, that encompasses a generous island bench, making it the perfect backdrop for contemporary living and family get togethers. Extending from this hub of the home you can take time out to relax in the large Home Theatre ideal for movie nights, and an Alfresco Cabana that offers up the perfect background drop for wining and dining all year round.
The rear of the home hosts the four Bedrooms, all linked together with a long Hallway awaiting first steps or to be lined with treasured family photos. The Master Suite is the highlight of this wing, as it’s fully equipped with a refined Ensuite, Built-In Robe and access to the Alfresco Cabana, all combining to make the perfect parent’s retreat.
People, Partnerships & Passion
This year Build for a Cure has been made possible through a partnership between McDonald Jones, McCloy Group and Children’s Cancer Institute. Beyond the key partners, we have a group of generous supporters involved in Build for a Cure this year, including Freedom, Fisher & Paykel, Winning Appliances, Austral Bricks and PRD Nationwide.
We’re welcoming the support from our amazing Ambassador and top bloke, the star of The Block, Scott Cam, along with players from the Newcastle Knights who will be dropping in and lending a hand on site.
Beyond our major partners, our trades and suppliers have come on board to volunteer their time and supplies to help make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s Build for a Cure.
“Collaborating with Children’s Cancer Institute, McCloy Group and our Hunter tradies, partners and suppliers, we are excited to be building this home at The Bower, to help fund a cure for childhood cancer. We’re enormously proud of be a leading partner in Build for a Cure, as it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to give back to families in need, as well as do our bit for the health and wellbeing of children across Australia.”

Watch the Build for a Cure Action!
McCloy Group have generously provided the land at The Bower, an impressively spacious 127-hectare residential land estate located off Medowie Road in Medowie.
The Bower borders Medowie State Conservation Area so a key focus is to develop a community that is sympathetic to the surrounding area and one that complements the Medowie lifestyle. When complete, the community will consist of approximately 420 homesites across 57 hectares. The remaining 70 hectares will be preserved as state conservation area and open space.
McCloy Group place a strong emphasis on creating exceptional living environments with vibrant public art and aesthetically serene streetscapes all within a masterplanned environment ideally located 30 minutes from Newcastle CBD and 35 minutes to Nelsons Bay - a vibrant coastal lifestyle. Located on your doorstep Medowie offers a relaxed shopping precinct, restaurants, education and recreational activities.
We are a Building for a Cure and ensuring that the purchaser of this home with love enjoys the very best that Medowie and the region has to offer.
Every year 950 Australian children and adolescents will be diagnosed with cancer. Every week nearly three Australian children and adolescents will die from cancer.
Did you know that cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease? Sixty years ago, childhood cancer was a death sentence for a child. Today, eight out of ten children survive.
What has made the difference? Medical research.
McDonald Jones Homes is determined to empower Children’s Cancer Institute to change these devastating statistics.
Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer. Cancer in children is vastly different to what adult’s experience, and the researchers at Children’s Cancer Institute are making big steps towards putting an end to this devastating disease. They don’t just hope to do it, they will do it.
To make this happen all proceeds from the Build for a Cure House will be donated to Children’s Cancer Institute to help finally put an end to childhood cancer.
With thanks to all our staff, suppliers and trades who helped turn this dream into a reality.
