Creating the perfect bathroom - What the experts are saying.

Family Bathroom

Planning out your bathroom design can be hard – selecting the right fixtures and finishes can be difficult due to the average ensuite’s compact size. It can start out seeming like a fun game of matching colours but can quickly turn into a headache.

If you need ideas for taking your bathroom to the next level, you're in the right place.

Don't overcomplicate things.

Just because you have the option to do different tiles on each wall and the floor doesn't mean you have to. See below the bathroom from our stunning Hermitage Grande Encore, where we've chosen these beautiful tiles for the flooring and extended it up the wall. This way, you can use your statement items to bring in your textures and colours, like the basin or bath.

If you want to go bold - do it right!

A bold tile choice can easily overwhelm a room, but if you've visited our display homes before, you'll probably have noticed the way we work them into the design. We do it by only using the bold tile options on one portion of the room, particularly the floor. Something people forget is that you can have a bold tile pattern without also being a dark in-your-face colour. Instead of going black, you can go for a subtle grey pattern instead.

That being said, we do love to see the bold tiles pop up during client selections. You can see our favourites below.

Check your priorities when it comes to bench space.

Assess how often you truly require to use the sink at the same time as another person. The double sink trend started becoming popular in the family bathroom traditionally shared by children, however, in an ensuite bathroom - this space may be more useful as a free bench space.

You'll never go wrong by staying neutral.

Not for every situation - but when it comes to bathroom design, no matter what style you prefer, neutral colours will stand the test of time. This doesn't mean you have to go entirely white, you can add interest using your lighting and fixtures. This way, if you decide to go for one big statement piece for your vanity or perhaps your bathtub, it will pop. Just look at the pops of black in this stunning Beachmere Encore master ensuite bathroom.

Separate shower vs wet room.

The standard bathroom designs would see a separate shower, bath, vanity and toilet, but in the last few years, we've seen a lot more people include a 'wet-room' in their bathroom design. This is the room we refer to where the bath and shower are combined behind a glass panel or door. Whether you prefer them or not, they are showing up a lot more and are definitely worth considering. Not only will they provide you with high aesthetic value, but they're great space savers. If you're interested in including a wet room in your design, be sure to mention it to our Building and Design Consultants during your planning stages.

Tapware will make a huge imapact.

Tapware is one of those things the majority of people will want the prettiest thing for the cheapest price - however - this is the integral part of the bathroom you want to ensure you choose wisely. If you go for an option purely based on trends, then it's likely to date quickly. If you choose one that is on the cheaper side, it's likely to tarnish or discolour. The key is long-lasting, good-quality items you know will stay in style and be practical for you.

Speaking of practical, where you place your tapware is extremely important. You can select whether you'd like the taps/handles to be wall mounted or bench mounted and even the height it's placed. Take note when you're in your planning and research stage, which you prefer when you visit our displays.

All in all, we recommend you go for quality, long-lasting materials that you love right off the bat.
