Granny Flat - The Perfect Addition to Your New Home
Would you like extra living space for adult children, private guest accommodation, home office or even a studio? A granny flat may be the perfect solution for you.
The humble granny flat has come a long way from being a self-contained accommodation for elderly family members. In recent years there has been a surge in Granny Flat construction, thanks to a range of benefits. From additional living space for growing families or additional income from holiday letting, a dedicated home office for entrepreneurs, the perfect teenage retreat or the ideal guest accommodation, this list is endless. Additionally, it can be used as a separate, private area for the pursuit of hobbies, when built adjacent to a swimming pool, it can also serve as a pool house with all the needed amenities you need to keep the pool party going. Another use, of course, is for young couples saving for their own homes.
McDonald Jones’ range of nine stylish granny flat designs comprise of one- and two-bedroom options are perfect for a host of land sizes and lifestyle needs, designed to be a valuable addition to any home.
McDonald Jones’ clients Christine and David McAlister are typical of the growing number of people attracted to the versatility of the granny flat. In addition to building a large Bronte Executive Lodge on their 2300sqm site in Box Hill, NSW, they wanted a granny flat to help meet their family requirements. It needed to have two bedrooms and as it would overlook the pool area, it had to blend seamlessly with the landscaping of their new home. “Our daughter and her husband will be living in it while they save for their own home, so it had to be large and comfortable enough for them to make their home in,” says Christine.
“Once they move out, we’ll use it for guest accommodation and as a pool house. Over the years it will serve many purposes, so we wanted it to be quite spacious and have all the amenities you need for everyday living.”
With nine designs on offer, there is a plan to suit every purpose and block of land. Each delivers an airy, open feel on a small footprint, our granny flat range provides stylish and practical designs aligned to our larger homes — and it offers ample space, privacy and flexibility to be transformed to meet your changing lifestyle over the years.
